Welcome To A New Beautiful You

Some of us have problem areas of surplus fat that, no matter what, will not reduce with diet or exercise efforts. If you feel very self-conscious of such areas, you may consider treating them with liposuction. This surgical procedure precisely removes the fat and sculpts the area to create a leaner, more attractive contour. It is often performed on the following areas:

  • Abdomen and waist

  • Hips and flanks

  • Buttocks

  • Inner and outer thighs

  • Knees

  • Calves

  • Ankles

  • Upper arms

  • Male chest area

  • Neck

  • Submental area (underneath the chin)

  • Upper or lower back

For the best aesthetic outcome, liposuction requires the skill of a plastic surgeon like Dr. Ali Roham, who is committed to the highest standards of care. As a leading plastic surgeon, Dr. Roham specializes in helping his patients achieve their body contouring goals through liposuction and other tried-and-true procedures.

Who Is a Candidate for Liposuction?

Dr. Roham carefully vets all prospective liposuction candidates to ensure they are healthy enough to undergo surgery. If you are considering liposuction, you should be in good health, both mentally and physically. You should not smoke, or you should be able to quit prior to your procedure. You may need to temporarily discontinue certain medications that raise the risks of surgery or receiving anesthesia.

It is also important when considering liposuction that you understand what can and cannot be achieved. For example, the results of liposuction will last as long as your weight remains stable; but, if you gain a significant amount of weight after surgery, it can affect the outcomes of surgery. Also, understand that while liposuction can remove fat, it will not improve the appearance of cellulite, loose skin or stretch marks. (Dr. Roham would be happy to explore other solutions to those problems with you.)

Liposuction Procedure Details

Liposuction is generally performed on an outpatient basis. Sometimes it is performed on more than one area of the body during the same operation. Also, liposuction may be combined with other plastic surgery procedures, such as breast augmentation or tummy tuck, as part of a mommy makeover.

To begin the liposuction procedure, Dr. Roham creates several small openings in the skin of the target treatment area. He chooses the location for these openings carefully, doing his best to hide them in the natural creases and transitions of the skin. Through the openings, he inserts a thin, hollow tube called a cannula. Moving the cannula back and forth, he breaks up the unwanted fat and uses suction to remove the fat from the body. Dr. Roham contours the area to ensure the most attractive shape.

Recovering From Liposuction

You can expect to be discharged from the surgical center a few hours after your procedure. When you return home, plan to lay low for the first few days as your body recuperates. You may experience swelling, bruising, soreness or a tight/numb sensation in the treated area. These aftereffects will subside with time.

Dr. Roham will provide you with complete aftercare instructions, and he will schedule several visits to follow up throughout your recovery. At these visits, he will clear you to safely resume work, exercise and other physical activities. Within a few weeks, you should be back to your normal routine.
